So the story goes something like this. Being in the UK we are meant to be protected from companies and what they are permitted to do with our personal data. E-Mail addresses can normally be linked to an individual so it is treated as personal data. The data protection act is meant to keep the larger guys in check. There is also a time limit on how long to hold data for unless they have a valid reason to hold the data. An example might be you have an active account with the company.
It is the same for the anti-spam laws inside the UK. Which pretty much says that you cannot use harvested email addresses for marketing. It also says that the company must have the consent of sending emails to. So if permission is revoked by request of the end user. The company must stop sending the emails.
I have an email address which has not been used in over 5 years. I think it was last used somewhere around 2004-2005. So with that being said the following company's are still sending spam to it. Even though they have never had permission to do so. I would also like to point out that i have never traded with the companies using the email address.
So here is a dirty company list who cannot comply with simple requests to ubsubscribe. The links are to articles about the spam releations when i raised complaints.
